My Route Overview: Lands End to John O'Groats
Starting at Lands End, I'll embark on a journey across Britain, revisiting the route my father and I rode in 2008. This ride will take me through some of the country’s most scenic and historically significant landscapes, all the way to John O'Groats.
Lands End, Cornwall
The journey begins at the southwestern tip of England, surrounded by rugged cliffs and expansive ocean views—just as my father and I did years ago.
Cornish Countryside
From Lands End, I’ll wind through the picturesque Cornish countryside, passing quaint villages, coastal views, and the historic town of Penzance.
Devon and Somerset
Riding through the hills of Devon and Somerset, I’ll experience the wild beauty of Exmoor National Park, with its open moorland, wooded valleys, and roaming wildlife.
Bristol and the Severn Bridge
I’ll pass near the vibrant city of Bristol before crossing the Severn Bridge, officially marking my entrance into Wales.
The Brecon Beacons
(If the route takes me through Wales) The stunning Brecon Beacons provide mountainous vistas and green valleys, a refreshing contrast to the English countryside before.
The Heart of England
Heading back into England, I’ll cross the Midlands, passing historical towns like Shrewsbury and Chester as I ride north toward the Lake District.
Lake District National Park
The Lake District offers some of Britain’s most awe-inspiring scenery. I'll be able to take in the towering mountains, serene lakes, and find a moment to reflect on the road traveled so far.
Scottish Lowlands
Crossing the border into Scotland, I’ll ride through the rolling hills of the Lowlands, with possible stops at Edinburgh or Stirling, each rich in Scottish history and culture.
Scottish Highlands
As I continue north, the Highlands promise dramatic landscapes. I'll pass Loch Ness, Glen Coe, and the Cairngorms—places that embody the untamed beauty of Scotland.
John O'Groats
Finally, I’ll arrive at John O'Groats, the northernmost tip of mainland Britain. Here, at the cliffs and endless horizon, my journey will come full circle, honouring my father and our shared love for the road.
